Ignorance must be blissful
"A person who thinks all the time has nothing to think except thoughts. So he loses touch with reality" - Alan Warrs
Doing > Thinking

That's what I wrote down on a few cards that I keep as a reminder to stop thinking and just do what needs to be done at the moment. I overthink everything and stop myself from doing anything because of my intrusive thoughts before I got the chance to do it or say it. Like now, I already thought about why I am writing something like this when I am definitely not qualified enough to do so. What is the purpose of someone like me sharing my thoughts on the internet, as if there were not thousands of sources of information already? I am not presenting any new ideas, I am simply just processing the information I consume and my thought through writing. I suppose, the biggest value one can bring as an individual is their own personal interpretation of the information and their personal twist. The act of storytelling is super-powerful and in today's alienated society, individuality and self-expression are more valued more than ever.
Life seems to be much more complicated because I limit myself by thinking about everything from every single angle before I do anything. I over-analyze situations, and I create a non-existent reality that only exists within my own imagination. My train of thought does not seem to even be a train, it's more like 15 of trucks on a crossroad, with different country licence plates. I realised the main reason behind the overthinking is the comfort in thinking that I have some control over the situation, that by overthinking I can forgo a lot of situations. So this comfort is to some level self-destructive, as I struggle to embrace the reality for what it is and let things be the way they are and deal with all the problems step at the time as they come.
This brings me to the Dunning-Kruger Effect, which refers to the tendency of individuals to overestimate their abilities and knowledge because they do not understand the whole spectrum of the problem or the subject matter. Usually, these individuals have a higher sense of confidence. Having healthy confidence is such a superpower because it projects on the outside and it gives you the security and validation that comes from within. By the definition of the effect, intelligent people are actually more critical of themselves as the more they learn, the less they think they know. And therefore also should struggle to naturally have such high confidence as those who do not overthink? I am not saying that there is a direct correlation between intelligence and confidence. However, people who are a bit more ignorant of the bigger picture and more grounded definitely have it much easier in life. As it's much healthier to be present, go with the flow and accept things as they are.
That's why, this is a reminder from me to me; go out there, accept the chaos, embrace the complexity of life and do just do more, enjoy the little things in life and fall in love with the moment.
